The South Australian government is considering adjusting the state’s time zone to either align with the eastern states or with Western Australia.

According to SA Premier Jay Weatherill, a state-wide consultation process will take place, Australian Associated Press reports. The Premier revealed that the 30-minute time difference to the eastern states and one hour and 30 minutes difference to Western Australia can create confusion across the scale of people’s daily lives and added that the business community has raised the issue at hand with him on different occasions.

The consultation process with major sporting bodies, the business community, the broader community and people in the regions will be led by Martin Hamilton-Smith, investment and trade minister and will last at least two months. The minister noted that people in the state’s west would have concerns about moving towards EST (Eastern Standard Time).

Adam Giles, Chief Minister of the Northern Territory said via a Twitter post the NT “won’t be joining SA push for time change without talking to Territorians first.” The Northern Territory Government, as well as Broken Hill community will be consulted about the potential time change.
